Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust and Health Innovation Partners establish SDH Innovations Partnership

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) and Health Innovation Partners (HIP) today announced that they have completed all the formalities to establish their new 50:50 joint venture partnership company, SDH Innovations Partnership LLP (SDHIP). This follows the announcement on 18 August 2018 that the Trust had appointed HIP as its preferred partner to deliver its ambitious estates strategy.

SDHIP will support the Trust’s ambitions to transform services and deliver more care to people at home and in their local communities by developing new buildings to replace out-of-date facilities, as well as looking to make more effective and efficient use of all its buildings. Over the next 5 years the partnership will be responsible for over £100m of developments in South Devon.

In making best use of NHS land and property, there will be opportunities for SDHIP to help meet the requirements of communities in South Devon through a spectrum of different developments to include residential, affordable housing, housing for the elderly, and supported accommodation for young adults. Such development will help to meet local housing needs and bring financial benefit back to the Trust.

Initially the partnership will prioritise:
• the development of new build Health and Wellbeing Centres in Dartmouth and Teignmouth (subject to the outcome of public consultation)
• much-needed improvements to emergency care services including investment in a new Emergency Department on the Torbay Hospital site.

Lesley Darke, Executive Director of Estates and Commercial Development at TSDFT said: “We are really excited about the opportunities we have to shape the NHS of the future together, and in doing so to make a difference to the lives of local people, not just for health and care services, but also from a wider community perspective.”

Commenting on behalf of Health Innovation Partners, Paul Styler, Director at Arcadis said: “Our partnership with the Trust will enable the delivery of fit for purpose buildings for the future for health and social care services in the region as well as generating financial benefits that can be put back into front line service delivery. We are looking forward to working alongside the Trust and its local partners to shape and deliver plans to help improve the quality of life for everyone living, working and visiting the area.”

Peter Cox, Head of Strategic Health Partnerships at Morgan Sindall Investments commented: “This Trust leads the way on the integration of health and social care, so for us to be working together to help transformational change within this sector is both exciting and challenging. This partnership is designed to encourage both parties to be open and innovative to identify new opportunities to better serve patients, staff and the wider community.”

Health Innovation Partners is a joint venture between Morgan Sindall Investments’ brand Community Solutions and Arcadis. It works with NHS bodies to develop a long-term strategy for their property and land, in line with healthcare needs and local priorities.
